BRITISH AND SPANISH PILOTS PLAN FUTURE

Representatives of BALPA and SEPLA, the unions representing pilots in British Airways and Iberia have signed a bilateral agreement in anticipation of the proposed merger between Iberia and British Airways. The agreement outlines areas of common interest and a mechanism for co-operation between the two pilot groups, laying foundations for when the two airlines merge.

Further talks will take place shortly involving representatives of the pilot groups.

A spokesman at the meeting added 'This is the beginning of a long process. We have committed to working together to ensure that the expected career paths of the pilots we represent are not only achieved but improved by the opportunities presented by the merger.'

Pilots union BALPA represents over 3000 British Airways pilots and SEPLA represents almost 99 per cent of the 2000 pilots working in Iberia.
